Disguised GTA V mods, AI-generated videos and invented plots. A practical guide to telling a genuine leak from a hoax, with the list of what's verified.
Every wave of GTA VI leaks brings a much larger wave of hoaxes. AI-generated videos, GTA V mods presented as real gameplay, invented maps and "leaked mission lists" written by anyone. This is our practical guide to not falling for them.
Rule 1: the source matters more than the content
Before believing anything, check who published it first. The real August 2026 leaks were verified and analyzed by specialist outlets with reputations to lose: PC Gamer, Kotaku, Engadget, Insider Gaming. If something circulates only on anonymous X accounts, TikTok or Discord servers and no major outlet picks it up within 24 hours, it's almost always fake.
Rule 2: be suspicious of anything too polished
Authentic leaks are usually ugly: screen recordings, bad compression, odd angles, visible debug UI. A "leaked" video in 4K with clean editing and epic music isn't a leak: it's a fan edit or generated footage. The real August leak is recognizable precisely by how rough the captures are.
Rule 3: watch out for disguised GTA V mods
The most common and most effective hoax. GTA V mods exist that recreate Vice City with enhanced graphics, and they're constantly circulated as "leaked GTA VI gameplay". Tells: animations identical to GTA V, recognizable car physics, UI with GTA V's typeface, and pedestrians with the detail level of a 2013 game.
Rule 4: AI now generates convincing video
This is 2026's new wrinkle and it complicates everything. Current video generators produce plausible-looking clips. How to spot them: deformed hands and fingers, sign and license plate text that turns into scribbles, objects appearing or vanishing between frames, and suspiciously short duration (generators rarely maintain coherence beyond a few seconds).
Rule 5: "mission lists" and "full plots" are almost always invented
Text costs nothing to fabricate. Every few weeks a document appears with the game's full plot, the radio station list or the mission map. Without audiovisual material backing it or a serious outlet verifying it, a text document is worthless. Always ask: why would someone with real access to the game publish a Word doc instead of a video?
Rule 6: check whether Rockstar took it down
It sounds counterintuitive, but it's a useful indicator: Rockstar issues copyright notices on genuine proprietary material. If a video has circulated for days untouched, it's reasonable evidence it contains nothing belonging to Rockstar. Note: a takedown confirms the material is theirs, not that it reflects the final game.
What's verified as of today
Officially confirmed by Rockstar: the November 19, 2026 date, Lucia and Jason as protagonists, the state of Leonida and Vice City, and the "An Extended Look" premiere on August 27 on Netflix.
Leaked and later confirmed by Rockstar: six-star wanted level, police identification by appearance, the karma system and fuel in vehicles.
Leaked and still unconfirmed: stamina bar and trunk inventory.
Unverified / probably fake: complete mission lists, detailed endgame plots, alternative release dates, and any "confirmed DLC" Rockstar hasn't discussed.
Our commitment
On this site we always label the status of each piece of information: what's official, what's a leak analyzed by credible outlets, and what's unverified rumor. We don't link to or host leaked material, and when something isn't confirmed, we say so.
How can you tell if a GTA 6 leak is real?
Check whether major specialist outlets have verified it, be suspicious of overly polished quality, rule out GTA V mods and AI-generated video (deformed hands, illegible text), and be skeptical of any leak that is text-only.
What is the biggest GTA 6 leak?
The August 2026 leak attributed to CYBERLEEK, which spread gameplay videos from an advanced build showing the final UI and several game systems. It surpassed the 2022 leak in reach and impact.
