Dan Clancy tells Bloomberg multiplayer arrives next year. Rockstar has confirmed nothing, but Take-Two did say GTA Online keeps its support after 19 November.
Two statements from the same day sketch, for the first time, something like a timeline for Grand Theft Auto VI's online. One comes from outside Rockstar and needs a pinch of salt; the other is official and settles a question that had a lot of people worried.
What the Twitch boss said
In an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy talks about the audience spike he expects at launch and then says you will see a big bump with GTA 6, "but an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer". Just before that he explains they have spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans and about engaging creators.
It does not read like idle speculation: it reads like someone who has been in those meetings. But the obvious has to be said — announcing Rockstar's calendar is not Twitch's job. PC Gamer, which broke the story, says plainly that Clancy was most likely not authorised to say it.
What is official: GTA Online is not shutting down
On that same 17 September, at the annual shareholder meeting, Take-Two confirmed it will keep supporting GTA Online "after GTA 6 release and beyond". That answers the question that had been hanging for months: the GTA Online you have been playing for years does not close in November.
It makes complete sense. If GTA 6 ships as a single-player experience and its online is not ready, switching off the golden goose would be self-harm.
The only online thing Rockstar has acknowledged
It is worth remembering how little there is:
- Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience. It has announced no online mode for launch day.
- The only public mention of an online component appears in legal filings from an employment case: a confidential, in-development "32-player online format".
- There is no date, no price, and no word on whether it is part of GTA 6 or something separate.
And PC, as a bonus
At the same meeting, asked about platform strategy, Strauss Zelnick said "the PC platform is becoming more and more important" to the company, and that they generally launch where there is a meaningful audience. Still not an announcement: GTA 6 arrives on 19 November on PS5 and Xbox Series only.
So will GTA 6 have an online mode?
Everything points that way eventually, but Rockstar has announced neither the mode nor a date.
Can I keep playing GTA Online after November?
Yes. Take-Two has confirmed support continues after GTA 6 launches.
Should we trust the Twitch CEO?
He is a source with access to Rockstar but no authority to announce anything. Treat it as a strong hint, not a date.
