What we know about GTA VI performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X: the 30 FPS Rockstar has confirmed, the 60 FPS mode that is still up in the air, and the differences between consoles.

Quick answer Rockstar has confirmed the game runs at 30 FPS on both consoles. It has not confirmed a 60 FPS performance mode. Differences between PS5 and Xbox Series X will be minimal — neither is the “right” one.
Correction · 28 September 2026 An earlier version of this article described two graphics modes (4K at 30 fps and 1440p at 60 fps) attributed to "technical leaks" and said the game would run at 60 fps in a performance mode. There is no reliable source for that. All Rockstar has said is that the game runs at 30 FPS. We have corrected the text and the FAQ.

Which console will GTA 6 look best on? It's the million-dollar question for those still deciding between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. We analyze what's known about performance on both platforms.

Resolution and framerate

The only official word came from Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, in an interview with Portuguese outlet Flow Games reported by Eurogamer on 28 August 2026: the game runs at 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. On a 60 FPS performance mode, he said he had to check with the technical team, and he had no details on resolution or ray tracing.

So, as of today, there are no confirmed graphics modes and no resolution figures for any console. We cover it in more depth in GTA 6 runs at 30 FPS on console.

On hardware, PS5 and Xbox Series X share a very similar AMD architecture, so differences should be small. Series X has a bit more GPU power (12.15 vs 10.28 teraflops) and PS5 a faster SSD (5.5 GB/s vs 2.4 GB/s), which could show in load times.

Exclusive content?

So far, Rockstar hasn't announced exclusive content for either platform. Both versions are likely to be identical in content. Take-Two has historically favored platform parity.

Xbox Series S: the big unknown

Microsoft's budget console is considerably less powerful, and Rockstar hasn't said anything about how the game will look on it: no resolution, no settings. The sensible expectation is the same 30 FPS at a lower resolution, but that's our estimate, not a fact. Nothing points to content cuts either.
