Why Tom Petty
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said in September that GTA VI was not "fully formed" when the first trailer came out, and that Love Is a Long Road worked as a mission statement for the team: a song to organise what went in and what did not. Both trailer picks spiked: The Pointer Sisters' track grew 182,000% on Spotify in its premiere week.
Radio stations
None is confirmed. The most-discussed clue is a Jason t-shirt with a redesigned V-Rock logo, the rock station from GTA Vice City. It is a nod, not an announcement. For reference, GTA V launched with more than 240 songs.
Music inside the story
Vice City's music industry is part of the plot: official characters include producer Dre'Quan Priest and his label Only Raw Records, veteran Boobie Ike and the duo Real Dimez.
What other artists have said
Before 15 September, several musicians hinted at their involvement. These are their claims, not Rockstar's:
- Panama told a fan that Back to Life, written with Poolside, "will be on GTA 6". The comment was later deleted.
- Neon Indian, behind GTA V's Change of Coast, said on a podcast: "It ain't the end of me and Rockstar Games."
- T-Pain and ScHoolboy Q have said they worked on the game.
Unfounded rumours
Producer Jermaine Dupri claimed in an interview that Drake would have his own station. Nothing supports it.
